Strong winds that struck several parts of Sattari taluka early Friday morning caused extensive damage to property and disruption in services.

Uprooted trees blocked roads at many places, severely disrupting traffic movement. Fire and Emergency Services personnel from Valpoi were seen working continuously since dawn to clear the affected areas.

Several electricity lines were damaged after trees collapsed on power cables, leading to disruption of electricity supply in many areas. Although most fallen trees were cleared by evening, the overall damage across the taluka is believed to be substantial.

The storm also caused heavy losses to agriculture and horticulture, especially affecting mango and cashew crops.

According to sources from the Valpoi Fire and Emergency Services, around 10 incidents were reported from different locations.

At Khadki, a tree fell near the playground early in the morning, blocking the road completely. Fire personnel rushed to the spot and cleared the obstruction, restoring traffic movement.

Later, at Kudshe Ghumti in Savarde panchayat area, a large tree collapsed onto the road, cutting off connectivity between Savarde-Sonal and Valpoi. Traffic resumed after the tree was removed.

Another incident occurred near the Brahma Temple at Brahmakarmali-Sattari, where a huge tree fell across the road, bringing traffic to a standstill. Fire personnel immediately reached the site and cleared the road.

At Savarde-Tar, trees fell on both the roadway and electricity lines, causing major damage. Traffic was disrupted and power supply to Savarde, Tar and Sona areas was affected.

After the Fire Services removed the trees, the Valpoi Electricity Department carried out emergency repair work, and electricity supply was restored by evening.

According to fire services officials, several electricity poles were uprooted and power lines snapped.

Meanwhile, in Budruk Karmali area of Kumthol under Savarde panchayat, a tree fell on a house, causing major damage. The roof and household materials suffered extensive losses, resulting in a significant financial setback to the house owner. At Hedode in Nagargao panchayat area, another tree collapse disrupted traffic movement.
