GFDC Ambelim hosts three-day Football Festival

PANAJI

The Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) Ambelim centre held a three-day Football Festival 2026 from May 12 to 14 at the Ambelim Sports Complex.

The festival was open to children in the U-6, U-8, U-10, U-12, and U-14 categories. Trophies and medals were awarded to the participants.

Speaking at the closing ceremony and kit distribution, GFDC Member Secretary and Chief Guest, Fransquinha Oliveira, said that the Ambelim centre has produced many talented girls and boys who have gone on to represent Goa at national-level tournaments.

“Over the last decade, our centre created history by becoming the first grassroots centre to produce an international player, a milestone which truly reflects our commitment, dedication, and passion for development at the grassroots level. Throughout these years, we have nurtured many talented girls and boys who have gone on to represent Goa at national-level tournaments with pride and determination,” she said.

Centre Head Angelo Silva urged the young trainees to practice with dedication and encouraged parents to support their children.

“There are ups and downs in life. If you want to win something, it takes practice and hard work. Players should come for practice every day and parents should also support their children for their progress; this is very important. Sports and education are both important,” he said.

Technical Assistant and FDO Management, Lawjoy Gomes was also present.

The GFDC Ambelim centre staff comprises Angelo Silva (Centre Head), Vinayak Velip (Coach), Joseph Baptista (Coach), and Clency Miranda (Groundsperson).
