Sanguem leaders rally support for ST political reservation demand

SANGUEM

Former Uguem sarpanch Santosh Gaonkar has said that no member of the ST community in Goa would oppose the demand for political reservation and challenged those allegedly against it to explain their stand publicly.

Addressing a press conference in Sanguem, he said anyone opposing the demand should hold a press meet and clearly state why they are against it.

He expressed confidence that the community remains united in its demand for political reservation.

Adv. Anand Gaonkar, Nanu Bandodkar, Chandrakant Gaonkar, Mahesh Gaonkar and Anil Kakodkar were present.

Santosh Gaonkar said the State Government, led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, would fulfil the long-pending demand, as it had done with other issues raised by the community.

Adv. Anand Gaonkar dismissed reports that some panchas and sarpanchas from Sanguem were planning to oppose the demand. He said political reservation is a legal right of the community and alleged that a false impression of opposition was being created.

He further said there were attempts to create confusion and mislead the community at a crucial stage when it is close to securing its rights.
