Lifesavers from Goa’s government-appointed beach safety agency, Drishti Marine, saved five persons from drowning while providing medical assistance to five persons and helping a woman beachgoer trace her missing mangalsutra during the weekend across Goa's coastline and the Dudhsagar waterfalls.
At Ashwem beach a 29-year-old male tourist from Bengaluru was rescued after being caught in deep waters about 50 metres from the shoreline. Lifesavers Rupesh Kerkar and Nagesh Sarang carried out the rescue using a rescue tube and rescue board respectively, bringing the swimmer safely back to shore. Once ashore, the victim was reported to be in stable condition.
At Baga beach an 18-year-old male tourist from Gujarat was rescued after being caught in a flash rip current while swimming. Lifesavers Shubham Naik and Ramashish Rajbhar conducted the rescue operation using a rescue tube and rescue board, safely bringing the victim ashore.
On Candolim beach a 17-year-old female tourist from Belgaum experienced difficulty while swimming and panicked in the water. Lifesavers Saifhul Baidya and Rohit Kandolna responded quickly and brought her safely ashore using a rescue tube. In another incident at the same beach, a 67-year-old female tourist from the United Kingdom experienced dizziness and breathing discomfort while resting on a beach bed. Lifesavers responded to the alert and assessed the situation, following which an ambulance was called. The victim was assisted on site and her condition was reported to be stable. Candolim beach also witnessed a first-aid incident involving a 42-year-old woman from Delhi who was standing in waist-deep water in the water sports area after completing a ride. While a passenger boat was being manually turned, she accidentally came in contact with the vessel and sustained an ankle injury. Lifesavers led by Captain Divakar Desai, along with Sirinath Lonekar, Vikash Salgaonkar and Manjunath Ghatkar, administered first aid and shifted her on a spine board to the Primary Health Centre in Candolim for further treatment.
At Utorda beach a woman from Varca reported losing her gold mangalsutra at Utorda beach. The missing gold item was later recovered with assistance from on-duty lifesaver Chandrashekar and returned to the owner after following protocol.
On Benaulim beach three incidents of stray dog bites were reported. A 62-year-old foreign female tourist sustained a bite on her leg after approaching stray puppies on the beach. In a separate incident, a 34-year-old male tourist from Pune was bitten by a stray dog while walking along the shoreline. Another 31-year-old tourist from Nagpur also sustained a dog bite injury. In all three cases, lifesavers cleaned the wounds, administered first aid and advised the victims to seek medical attention for further treatment.
At Dudhsagar waterfalls a 36-year-old male tourist from Pune was rescued after jumping into the water without wearing a life jacket. Lifesaver Irfan Shaikh used a rescue tube to retrieve the victim safely. In another incident at the same waterfall, a three-and-a-half-year-old child slipped from a rock into the water. Lifesaver Yallesh, who was stationed nearby, responded immediately and rescued the child using a rescue tube. The child was reported to be safe.
