Farmers in Nagvem and Cacora villages in Curchorem are reeling from crop losses caused by frequent incursions of wild boars, with the problem intensifying over the last few days as the crops reach the flowering stage.

According to local cultivators, wild boars have been entering agricultural fields during the night and destroying standing paddy cultivation. Large portions of farmland have been uprooted leading to financial distress among farmers who depend on paddy cultivation for their livelihood.

Farmers specifically pointed out that the wild boars are descending into the paddy fields from the adjacent hilly areas.

Adding to their woes, farmers also complained about the lack of proper road access to their fields, which makes it difficult to transport harvesting machinery. The absence of motorable access has forced many to rely on manual labour, further increasing costs and delays during the harvesting season.

Several farmers stated that despite repeated complaints to the forest department, the issue remains unresolved.

Residents have demanded immediate intervention from authorities, including compensation for crop losses and the development of basic infrastructure like access roads to support farming activities.

The recurring problem of wild boar attacks has become a major concern in the region, highlighting the urgent need for a long-term solution to protect agriculture and sustain rural livelihoods.
