Moira panch assaulted; 2 booked

Mapusa police booked two persons on charges of assaulting Moira Panch Lavu Thakur on Wednesday afternoon, in connection with some previous enmity.

According to reports, the incident took place at about 12.40 pm near the Moira Club. Thakur was returning home from Mapusa on his two-wheeler, when Chirag Belekar of Moira allegedly chased Thakur on a motorcycle near Belekar Hall in Bastora and struck Thakur’s two-wheeler from behind.

Thakur fell on the ground and this led to an argument between Belekar and Thakur.

Chirag Belekar then contacted his father, Jayesh, to the spot. Jayesh and Chirag are alleged to have assaulted Thakur and threatened him with dire consequences.

Thakur was first admitted to the Aldona Primary Health Centre and was later shifted to the Mapusa District Hospital for further treatment.

Acting on a complaint, Mapusa police registered a case against Jayesh and Chirag Belekar, and are on the lookout for them.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira met Thakur at the district hospital and inquired about his health. He also condemned the assault on an elected representative.

Further investigation is being conducted by Assistant Sub-Inspector Ajay Gaonkar under the guidance of Mapusa Police Inspector Naveen Desai.
