MARGAO
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday gave the Goa government’s in-principle nod for the development and beautification of the Margao railway station premises with a host of additional passenger amenities.
In fact, a high-level panel comprising the Chief Secretary, officials of the Finance Ministry, the Principal Chief Engineer, and representatives of the Konkan Railway Corporation, will study the beautification proposals before implementation.
The Chief Minister, along with PWD Minister Digambar Kamat and Goa government officials, went into a huddle with KRC officials at the KRC guest house on Monday evening. KRC officials held a PowerPoint presentation for the benefit of the Chief Minister and the PWD Minister, after which the Chief Minister suggested the constitution of the panel to take the process forward.
Briefing the media after the meeting, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat said the KRC officials held the PowerPoint presentation of the beautification project for the benefit of the Chief Minister. He said the KRC has adequate land in its possession, which is now sought to be beautified to offer better amenities for the travelling public.
“The Chief Minister has given in-principle approval for the beautification project. The project includes demolition of the existing footbridge and construction of a new one. The committee constituted by the Chief Minister will deliberate and study it to take it further forward,” he said, adding that the Chief Minister will take a review of the proposal at a meeting scheduled next month.
