Alert citizens of Chinchinim caught red handed a vehicle after dumping bailed waste near the Digaum Bandh on Sunday evening.

The incident came to light after a local resident Joe Dias found to his shock and surprise that a jeep unloaded bailed waste near the Digaum bandh. He later called the locals and the panchayat members before intimating the incident to the Cuncolim police.

Chinchinim sarpanch Frank Viegas said the incident only brought to the fore that waste is not disposed of scientifically even though the same is being collected by contractors. “The incident should come as a wake-up call for agencies such as the Goa State Pollution Control Board and the Goa Waste Management Corporation that they need to set up mechanism to ensure that contractors do not dispose of the collected waste in the open”, he said.

While promising to impose hefty fine on the violators, the Sarpanch has requested the Cuncolim police to initiate stringent action to serve as a deterrent for others.
