Sanguem Municipal Councillor Meshu D’Costa has strongly criticised the government over the non-availability of insulin at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Sanguem, stating that the shortage has caused serious inconvenience to diabetic patients in the area.
D’Costa informed that for the past several days the Sanguem PHC has been facing a shortage of insulin, leaving many diabetic patients who depend on the government health facility for their regular supply in a difficult situation. He pointed out that several patients from Sanguem and surrounding areas rely entirely on the PHC for insulin and the absence of the essential medicine could pose serious health risks to them.
Sources said that the shortage of insulin at the Sanguem PHC is reportedly due to a limited supply available with the Directorate of Health Services. The authorities have, however, assured that the supply of insulin will be restored at the Sanguem PHC by Monday, March 9.
Meanwhile, D’Costa has warned that he will launch an agitation if the insulin supply is not made available at the Sanguem PHC by the assured date, stating that the health of diabetic patients cannot be compromised due to administrative lapses.
Dcosta have also urged the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to look into the issue and get it resolved.
