Man held for mobile phone theft at Calangute beach

A man was arrested for allegedly stealing a mobile phone belonging to a tourist at Calangute beach.

According to police, the complaint was lodged by Shankar Pal, a resident of Nalgonda in Andhra Pradesh.

He stated that the theft occurred around noon on March 4 when his bag was kept in an open area on the beach.

Police said the accused, identified as Shabir Bepari, a resident of Khariwada in Vasco and a native of Hubli in Karnataka, allegedly stole the complainant’s mobile phone from the bag.

Following the complaint, personnel from the Calangute police registered an offence under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Police later arrested the accused in connection with the theft.

Further investigation in the case is being carried out by Head Constable Sanjay Kerkar.
