BICHOLIM
The Bicholim-Sanquelim region received heavy rainfall on Monday morning, bringing relief from the heat and some comfort to farmers.
The heavy rain led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas. Water also collected on some roads, causing inconvenience to traffic.
Poor cleaning of drains and lack of proper drainage measures resulted in waterlogging at various places.
Residents have stressed the need for municipal and panchayat authorities to ensure regular cleaning of drains and proper drainage in areas that are prone to flooding during the first spell of rain.
Meanwhile, minor incidents of damage were reported in a few places; however, no major losses have been reported, according to fire service officer Rahul Desai.
The delay in the arrival of the monsoon by nearly fifteen days had disrupted agricultural activities. However, Monday’s heavy rainfall has brought some relief to farmers. They said regular rainfall in the coming days will be important for agricultural work.
To handle any emergencies, a control room has been set up. Control rooms have also been activated in all panchayat and municipal areas, and committees made up of officials from various departments have been formed to coordinate preparedness and response efforts, the administration stated.
