The Goa government is in the process of finalising the draft Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2026 with a focus on strengthening AI education, skill development, and innovation in the State, IT Minister Rohan Khaunte told the Assembly on Friday.

Responding to a private member’s resolution moved by Independent MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco, Khaunte said the policy framework aims to introduce AI learning in school as well as higher education, establish AI laboratories in schools, and train teachers in AI pedagogy.

He said the government is also working to promote artificial intelligence, innovation, and other emerging technologies to prepare a future-ready workforce in Goa.

Khaunte informed the House that the State is strengthening collaboration with institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology Goa, National Institute of Technology Goa, BITS Pilani, and Goa Engineering College to create an AI-ready talent pool.

The minister further said that the government is working towards establishing an Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence in Goa to boost research, innovation, and industry collaboration.

According to him, the initiative will support advanced AI development, encourage startup innovation, and facilitate real-world AI solutions across sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, tourism, and public service delivery.

Khaunte said the broader objective of the policy is to position Goa as a destination for artificial intelligence and deep-technology development in India.
