A delegation from the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) met Customs Commissioner Bipin Kumar Upadhyay this week to press for trade facilitation measures, including a facility in Goa to clear international export and import consignments via air cargo.

The delegation, led by GCCI’s Logistics Committee chairman Chandrakant Gawas and comprising members Mario Furtado, Rakesh Unny, Santosh Parab and Foreign Trade Officer Sanket Kaskar, highlighted gaps in the current system in the meeting with Upadhyay.

“While the Panjim Head Post Office is authorised to handle international export parcels, there is no facility in Goa to process and clear import parcels. As a result, consignments are routed through Mumbai, causing delays, higher costs and inconvenience,” GCCI said.

Officials said the absence of a local clearance mechanism affects both businesses and families. Goan households receiving gift parcels from relatives abroad face difficulties when customs clarifications are required, since assessments are carried out outside the State.
