A major fire broke out at a kiosk near Savarde-Sattari bridge on Thursday evening after a gas leak from a cylinder triggered flames, causing extensive damage. The kiosk is owned by Suresh Gaonkar who depends on the business for his livelihood. At around 4 pm, while opening the shop, a domestic gas cylinder kept for use suddenly started leaking. Firefighters from Valpoi Fire Station arrived and brought fire under control. Losses were estimated at around Rs 60,000 while property worth about Rs 40,000 was saved.
