MAPUSA
Mapusa Police have taken Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, owners of the popular nightclub ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ in Arpora, into custody in connection with an alleged forgery case involving a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
The duo was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court, which remanded them to five days of police custody for further investigation.
According to police sources, the Luthra brothers were brought from Colvale Jail as part of an ongoing probe into the alleged fabrication of a Health Department NOC. The document is suspected to have been used to obtain an excise licence for the nightclub.
Police are now examining the authenticity of the documents submitted and the process through which the licence was obtained. Officials said custodial interrogation is expected to help uncover the extent of the alleged forgery and whether more people were involved.
A court had earlier denied anticipatory bail to the Luthra brothers, after which the police took them into custody in the case.
The case has raised concerns about the checks and verification process for issuing licences to commercial establishments, especially in the hospitality sector. Further investigation is underway.
