Driver arrested in Bicholim hit, run case

Bicholim police arrested a 42-year-old man from Shirgao in connection with a hit-and-run case in Bicholim on Sunday evening.

In a complaint, Maleshi Talwar (41) a cable technician hailing from Vathadev in Sarvan-Bicholim, stated that the mishap took place near Indian Overseas Bank, Muslim Wada, Bicholim on Sunday at about 6.20 pm.

Talwar stated that a person drove a car in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Sanquelim towards Bicholim and collided with his scooter.

Talwar sustained injuries and was shifted to CHC Bicholim for medical treatment.

The car driver failed to provide medical assistance to the injured and fled from the scene towards Assonora without informing the police.

Bicholim police registered an offence under Sections 281, 125, and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 134(a) and (b) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Bicholim police managed to identify the car utilising CCTV camera footage, intelligence inputs, and technical analysis.

The car driver Nilu Vaman Gaonkar (42) of Madhlawada-Shirgao was taken to the police station and later arrested in the connection. The car was also recovered from the driver.

Further investigation in the matter is in progress under the supervision of Police Inspector Vijay Rane.
