Some youth from Curchorem have raised concerns over a painting on the old municipal building, after information obtained under the Right to Information revealed the work was neither tendered, sanctioned, nor officially allocated by the municipal council to any contractor.

Alleging that there is something amiss in the entire process, the youth led by social worker Datta Dessai have demanded a detailed inquiry, pointing out that the structure is a government property and any work undertaken on it must follow due procedure.

According to the RTI reply obtained by Dessai, the council has stated that there was no sanctioned amount for the painting work, no tender process was initiated, and no list of bidders exists in the records of the municipal office.

The reply further clarified that the council had neither appointed any agency nor received any formal proposal for carrying out the painting work.

The youth also highlighted the absence of essential documentation, including certified copies of council resolutions, measurement details, cost breakups, paint specifications, and inspection records with the municipality, raising further suspicion about the legitimacy of the work.

Allegations have also been levelled that the painting was undertaken as an initiative of a politician despite the building being a municipal property. Questioning the legality of such an action, the youth asked how any individual could execute work on government property without official authorisation or adherence to legal protocols.

The youth have called for a thorough investigation to fix accountability and ensure transparency in the functioning of the municipal council.
