Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has reduced his official convoy following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation and austerity measures amid the ongoing global energy crisis.

In a social media post, Sawant said he has “kept only one vehicle” as part of efforts to cut fuel consumption and support the Centre’s call for economic prudence. He also said the Goa government is considering introducing an electric vehicle for his official use as part of the State’s wider push towards sustainable and cost-effective measures.

The move comes after Modi, while addressing a public gathering in Hyderabad on Sunday, urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption, avoid unnecessary travel, and adopt more energy-efficient practices due to rising global uncertainties and supply chain disruptions affecting India’s economy.

The Prime Minister also encouraged greater use of public transport, carpooling, and railways for goods transport, along with faster adoption of electric vehicles. Alongside fuel-saving measures, Modi appealed to citizens to postpone non-essential foreign travel and gold purchases for a year, reduce edible oil consumption, and gradually shift towards locally made products.
