Winds of instability has again hit the 11-member village panchayat of Sao Jose de Areal. In an unprecedented development, nine out of the total 11 panchayat members have signed a notice of no-confidence against Sarpanch Joycee Dias. One panchayat member is presently on long leave.

The signatories to the motion include  deputy Sarpanch Marcelino Galdino, Valente Fernandes, Linda Fernandes, Georgina Tereza, Sandeep Naik, Piedade Cardozo, Aaron Gomes, Gabriel Oliveira and Carmina Fernandes.

In the no-trust motion, the signatories alleged that the Sarpanch does not take the members into confidence in the administrative and development work. They further charged the Sarpanch for  not executing the resolutions adopted by the Panchayat body.

Meanwhile, the Congress and Goa Forward leaders said that Panchayat members belonging to the two parties in Areal have come together to form a panel.

Congress leader Savio D’Silva and Goa Forward leader Durgadas Kamat said the panchayat members of the two parties have jointly moved a No-Confidence Motion against  Sarpanch Joycee Veyona Dias under Section 51 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994.

The newly formed Congress“Goa Forward panel is expected to stake claim for the formation of a new Panchayat leadership following the special meeting to decide the no-confidence motion.
