Former Minister Churchill Alemao on Monday told the media that Aam Admi Party senior leader and Goa desk in-charge Atishi Marlena had called on him to discuss politics and other issues plaguing the State.
Churchill, however, said that he had not decided on his future political course. He said that many others have also approached him, but made it clear that he will make a decision at the right time.
The former Delhi Chief Minister had called on Churchill at his Varca residence last week, triggering speculation in local political circles. The meeting had taken place when AAP Benaulim MLA and Churchill’s arch-rival Venzy Viegas had warned the party leadership that he and party Velim MLA Cruz Silva would not hesitate to chart out a new political course if there is no alliance of opposition parties in Goa.
Churchill told the media that elections will come and go, but what really matters is the people.
“The people of Benaulim had elected me so many times. The same faith and trust was reposed in me by the people of Navelim. I am indebted to the people of Benaulim. For it is because of them that I earned the distinction of becoming the first Catholic Chief Minister of Goa,” he said.
“It is not a joke for a seaman to become a CM. But God and Mother Vailkankani and the blessings of the people of Benaulim helped me in my political career,” he said.
Asked whether he would contest the 2027 Assembly election, Churchill shot back, saying “the media should ask the people whether they want Churchill back in the Assembly”.
