CCP cracks down on illegal stalls at KTC bus-stand CCP removes 5 illegal stalls near KTCBus Stand after High Court orders clearing of unauthorized encroachments.

PANAJI

The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Tuesday demolished five allegedly illegal food stalls at the bus parking area of the KTC bus-stand in Patto.

Officials said the action was taken in compliance with directions of the Bombay High Court, which has ordered all local bodies to remove unauthorised structures within their jurisdictions.

The stalls had been operating for several years, drawing commuters and visitors to the Kadamba bus-stand area. However, CCP officials maintained that the structures had no valid permissions and were encroaching on public space.

“The High Court has made it clear that encroachments have to be demolished,”  a senior CCP officer said, adding that the action on Tuesday was strictly as per the court orders.

The demolition drive, meanwhile, drew mixed reactions with some welcoming the action but others expressed compassion for those operating the stalls and earning a livelihood through hard work.

CCP officials indicated that further inspections would be carried out in the coming weeks to identify and remove similar unauthorised structures across the city.
