He was speaking after inaugurating the new head office of the Directorate of Transport at Porvorim, in the presence of Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, Director of Transport P Pravimal Abhishek, and Secretary (Transport) Mahesh Kumar Shambhu.
Sawant said the government will build new bus stands at Mapusa and Margao under a Public Private Partnership model, while a new bus stand at Bicholim will be inaugurated soon.
“The government has already started implementing the scrappage policy. The private sector should also follow it to benefit financially when buying new vehicles,” he said.
He added that 49 transport department services are now Aadhaar-enabled, allowing people to access them easily.
The Chief Minister said the new office will help the Directorate staff provide faster services to the public. “Innovation, technology and creativity are key to delivering better services,” he added.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said most services are now online and that steps have been taken to set up an AI-operated command and control centre to monitor offences and reduce accidents.
“The staff now have modern infrastructure. It is their responsibility to provide better and more efficient services to the public,” Godinho said.
