The sixth edition of Vorrad 6.0, South Goa’s much-awaited duathlon, was successfully held at Benaulim Beach, attracting cycling and running enthusiasts from across the state. The event was organised by ProPedalerz Cycling Club, one of Goa’s oldest registered cycling clubs, and provided an energetic Sunday morning for both participants and spectators.
The event was graced by chief guest Damodar Verlekar, a Talathi at the North Goa Collectorate and a distinguished endurance athlete. Verlekar, who has completed the Ironman 70.3 race in Goa four times, highlighted the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle and praised the growing interest in cycling and running in the state. His address encouraged participants to push their limits and enjoy the spirit of endurance sports.
Guest of honour Dinesh Heda also attended the event, adding to the occasion and showing his support for fitness and community engagement.
Vorrad 6.0 featured a 60-km cycling challenge along South Goa’s scenic coastal roads, followed by either a 2.5-km or 6-km beach run. The event witnessed strong participation, with 81 runners completing the 2.5-km run and 98 runners taking part in the 6-km race. Participants from different age groups and backgrounds joined in to celebrate fitness, endurance and community spirit.
The event also highlighted inspiring stories of determination. The youngest participant, a 15-year-old boy, enthusiastically took on the challenge, while the oldest competitor, aged 73, proved that age is no barrier to staying fit.
The race was flagged off at 6.30 am, with participants cycling through picturesque routes before returning to Benaulim Beach for the run segment. The event concluded with a medal distribution ceremony recognising the efforts and achievements of all participants.
