Navelim Villagers Union storm into quarterfinals

Navelim Villagers Union cruised into the quarterfinals of the 18th London Trophy Inter-Village Football Tournament 2026, registering an emphatic 6“1 victory over St. Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna. The tournament is organised by Goa Velha Sports Club and sponsored by the Villagers of Goa Velha based in the United Kingdom.

Navelim Villagers Union opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Rovan Pereira. Mark Gomes doubled the lead in the 22nd minute, giving Navelim a comfortable 2“0 advantage at halftime.

The second half saw Navelim dominate the proceedings. Sweden Costa made it 3“0 in the 43rd minute, and Richard Costa added another goal a minute later to stretch the lead to 4“0. Mark Gomes struck again in the 46th minute to complete his brace and his team’s fifth goal of the match.

St. Anthony’s Sports Club managed a consolation goal when substitute Cyrus Fernandes beat Navelim goalkeeper Jeet Gupta in the 65th minute, reducing the margin to 5“1. However, substitute Samuel D’Souza restored Navelim’s dominance a minute later, netting the sixth goal to seal a convincing 6“1 victory.

Clinton Niasso was named Man of the Match, and the award was presented by Andre Fernandes, Life Member of Goa Velha Sports Club, based in the United Kingdom.
