Betalbatim SC edge past Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda

MARGAO: Betalbatim Sporting Club came from behind to edge past Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda 7-6 in a thrilling tie-breaker and secure a place in the quarterfinals of the 16th Davorlim Cup, organized by Sporting Club Davorlim, at Panchayat Ground, Davorlim on Saturday.

Fr. Agnelo opened the scoring in the 8th minute through Savio Vales. Paroda doubled their lead in the 21st minute with a powerful header from a corner by Salvin Fernandes. Betalbatim reduced the deficit before halftime through Gladwin Braganza, leaving the score 2-1 in Paroda’s favour at the breather.

In the second half, Betalbatim applied sustained pressure, but Paroda’s defense held firm. Paroda’s Fedrich Fernandes nearly extended the lead in the 46th minute, but his powerful effort sailed over the crossbar. In injury time, Gladwin Braganza struck again to level the match at 2-2, sending the game to a penalty shootout.

Betalbatim proved superior in the shootout, winning 7-6 to advance to the quarterfinals. Savio Vales of Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda was adjudged Player of the Match by Livon Raikar, former Deputy Sarpanch.
