Rajasthan United FC’s title hopes face a crucial test when they take on Dempo SC in an Indian Football League (IFL) 2025-26 Championship Phase match at Namdhari Football Stadium, Sri Bhaini Sahib, Ludhiana, on Friday.

Both sides have opened their Championship Phase campaigns with contrasting results. Rajasthan United suffered a narrow 1-2 loss to Sreenidi Deccan FC, while Dempo were held to a goalless draw by Shillong Lajong FC.

The pressure is firmly on Rajasthan. Fourth on 18 points, they remain in touch with the leaders, but their margin for error is shrinking fast. A win could lift them to second place and keep the chase on frontrunners Diamond Harbour.

Dempo, meanwhile, are bottom of the Championship Phase standings with 10 points and out of title contention. However, they will be eager to finish strongly, with a win potentially moving them up to fifth.

Recent history favours Rajasthan, who are unbeaten in three meetings against Dempo, with two wins and a draw, while enjoying a 7-2 aggregate advantage. Their last meeting on April 19 at PJN Stadium, Margao, saw Rajasthan come from behind to win 2-1 after Marcus Joseph’s opener was cancelled out by goals from Gerard Artigas and Thomyo S.

Dempo coach Samir Naik admitted a top-four finish would be difficult but said the side would continue pushing for maximum points.

The match kicks off at 6.30 pm IST and will be telecast on DD Sports and Sony Sports Network, with streaming on Waves App and Sony LIV.
