GCA Green clinch Queen Cup Women’s T20 cricket title

Riding on an all-round performance by captain Purva Bhaidkar and a sensational bowling spell from Tanaya Naik, GCA Green defeated GCA Yellow by 47 runs in the final of the Queen Cup Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament organised by the Goa Cricket Association. The match was played at the GCA Ground in Sanguem.

After winning the toss, GCA Yellow elected to field first. Batting first, GCA Green posted a strong total of 151 for 4 in 20 overs. Captain Purva Bhaidkar led from the front with an aggressive knock of 36 runs off 22 balls, including five boundaries and a six. Palak Arondekar contributed a valuable 34 off 32 balls, while Krupa Patel and Divya Naik added 22 runs each to stabilise the innings. Tanaya Naik remained unbeaten on 22 at the end.

For GCA Yellow, Aradhana Saroj bowled impressively and claimed 2 wickets for 23 runs in her four overs, while Vidika Sawant and Savali Kolambkar picked up one wicket each.

Chasing a target of 152, GCA Yellow got off to a poor start as the GCA Green bowlers maintained tight control from the outset. Preeti Gaonkar played a fighting knock of 28 runs off 24 balls, while Tejashwini Duragad added 24 runs. However, the remaining batters failed to build partnerships, and the team was bowled out for 104 in 20 overs.

Tanaya Naik starred with the ball for GCA Green, taking 4 wickets for 19 runs in her four overs. Captain Purva Bhaidkar also delivered an excellent spell, claiming 3 wickets for just 6 runs. Harshada Kadam, Pooja Kalel, and Krupa Patel chipped in with one wicket each to seal a memorable victory.

Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Desai was the chief Guest for the Prize distribution function. Mahesh Desai, President of Goa Cricket Association; Tulsidas Shetye, Secretary; Sayyed Abdul Majid, Treasurer; Prithvi Bandekar and Alka Phal Desai also graced the function
