Governance should be proactive, not reactive

Babasaheb Ambedkar’s contribution to society remains unparalleled. He faced every challenge courageously and worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the poor and marginalised. His service was never for fame or recognition; it flowed naturally from his deep patriotism and compassion for the suffering masses. Even today, people feel the absence of such a proactive and people-centric leader. Across the country, many citizens still struggle for basic necessities such as roads, water, electricity, housing, employment and sanitation. Poor families face endless obstacles in securing ration cards, gas connections and government benefits guaranteed by law. Many elderly people are left helpless without support, while false legal cases and bureaucratic delays continue to burden the common citizen. In several places, homes of the poor are threatened by flooding, unsafe trees or even demolition as “illegal structures.” Recently, a Class VI student from Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh, appealed publicly to the District Magistrate to build a road for her school. Only after her video went viral was action taken. Governance should function proactively, not merely in response to public appeals.
