The Bharatiya Janata Party has achieved a significant political milestone by making its first major entry into power in West Bengal, while also retaining Assam and maintaining its position in Puducherry as part of a wider electoral success across multiple States. However, the West Bengal outcome raises concerns. Reports of large-scale deletions of voters, particularly from minority communities, during the so-called ‘SIR’ exercise just before the elections have led many to question the fairness of the process. Such developments appear to have weakened the chances of the Mamata Banerjee-led government, which had governed the State for nearly 15 years since 2011. In contrast, voters in Kerala and Tamil Nadu have once again placed their trust in secular political traditions. Their decision reflects a preference for inclusive governance and stability. As the BJP assumes power in West Bengal, it carries the responsibility of fulfilling its promise of development for all sections of society. It is crucial that governance remains focused on progress, harmony, and unity, avoiding divisive politics. The people of the State deserve peace, stability, and equal respect for all communities.
