The residents of Dabolim living in a housing society are facing serious problems of contaminated water leading to health issues. The housing colony has around 328 flats and eight hundred family members residing in the area suffered from vomiting issues and diarrhoea, affecting around 156 members on 12th March 2026. The complaint with regard to the same was given to the Pollution Control Board, PHS, builders, and the panchayat. The samples of water were collected and tested and were found to be contaminated due to STP plant water mixing with borewell water, which led to health issues. The present situation is under control, and all those affected were given treatment and have recovered. The whole issue is that the building has a swimming pool with borewell and STP, which is to be tested every six months. The government should take steps to check water quality in all building complexes which have more than a hundred flats. Once the building is complete and occupancy is given, the society is formed and builders say they have no role to play and do not take any responsibility. It is the housing society's responsibility to take care of the building, but builders should also take the initiative to help residents in case of major issues. With this incident, it is a wake-up call for all housing cooperative societies to take precautions and test water quality and ensure that the water we drink is safe and hygienic. There should also be a structural audit for buildings more than 10 to 15 years old. This will help to know the status of the building and take measures.
