There are areas in Colva which are having extremely irregular water supply and others where the water pressure is very poor. It has been my observations that quite a few affected villagers are raising the issue with the local MLA and PWD engineers/office/workers. All this is fine but there is local governing body that I think the villagers are unfortunately letting off the hook and not challenging on concerned water issues i.e. the Colva Village Panchayat. The Colva Panchayat (and all other panchayats) is/are well empowered under the Panchayat Raj act not only to take serious measures with the government authorities but also take decisions to safeguard water resources for the village. In addition to making normal official representations to the Colva panchayat in the normal calendar days, villagers must make it a priority to attend the quarterly gram sabhas to address their issues including that of water. The next gram sabha is on May 3.
