Taking a serious note of schools charging excessive amounts for prospectuses, the Directorate of Education has directed all government and government-aided schools to cap the cost of prospectuses, including admission forms, at Rs 100 or the actual printing cost, whichever is lower.

Warning of strict action, Director Shailesh Zingade said any violation would be viewed seriously and could invite disciplinary measures.

“It has been brought to the notice of the Directorate that certain schools are charging excessive amounts for the sale of prospectus along with admission forms,” Zingade said in a circular issued.

Zingade said that the cost of the prospectus including admission form should not exceed Rs 100 or the actual cost of printing, whichever is lower.

The directive clearly states that no additional or hidden charges should be levied under any circumstances. Schools have also been instructed to maintain transparency in cost calculations and make such details available for inspection if required.

“Any violation of the instructions would be viewed seriously and may invite appropriate disciplinary action,” he said.
