Kolhapur duo caught for interstate drug trafficking in Pernem

Pernem police arrested two persons from Kolhapur-Maharashtra after busting an interstate drug trafficking racket in a narcotic raid at Malpe-Pernem on Friday night and seizing 1.637 kg of suspected ganja worth Rs 1.64 lakh from their vehicle.

According to Pernem police, a raid was conducted on the service road of NH66 near Nilima restaurant at Malpe-Pernem between 7.55 pm and 11.05 pm.

During a search, police found in the alleged possession of Vinod Kumbhar (29) and Atik Malik (23) suspected narcotic drugs weighing 1.637 kgs and valued at Rs 1.64 lakh. The drugs were reportedly concealed by them in their car.

Police arrested the two accused in the wee hours of Saturday and seized the drugs along with the car.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused are linked to an interstate drug trade.

Further investigation is in progress by PSI Prathmesh Parsekar under supervision of Pernem PI Nitin Halarnkar, Pernem SDPO SP Salim Shaikh and overall supervision of Superintendent of Police (North) Harishchandra Madkaikar.
