Karnataka man held for train theft

VASCO: A 24-year-old man has been arrested by the Vasco Railway Police in connection with a theft on board the Velankanni“Vasco Express, and the stolen valuables have been recovered. The accused, identified as Ambrish Beggar from Bagalkot, Karnataka, was taken into custody on April 24 following an investigation into a complaint lodged by Afroza Begum Hukkeri (59) from Vasco.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred in the early hours of April 23 while she was travelling in the general coach between Sanvordem and Chandor. During the journey, her handbag was allegedly stolen. The stolen items included a mobile phone and a pair of silver anklets weighing around 250 grams. The total value of the recovered items is estimated at about Rs 67,000.

Based on the complaint, Vasco Railway Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Police later traced and arrested the accused and recovered the stolen items. The accused is currently in police custody, and further investigation is under way.
