Drugs worth Rs 35,000 seized in Tuem, 1 held

PERNEM: A man from Mapusa has been arrested on charges of possessing drugs worth Rs 35,000 at Tuem on Tuesday night. According to Pernem police, a narcotic raid was conducted between 7.45 pm and 10.35 pm behind the new water treatment plant, Tuem. Police seized 326 grams of ganja from the possession of Mohammad Ali Bedgeri (39) of Duler-Mapusa, which was allegedly concealed by him in his car. The accused was arrested under the NDPS Act and was produced before the JMFC Court in Pernem on Wednesday, where he was remanded to two days’ police custody.

MAPUSA: An 83-year-old British national living in Candolim died while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, police said. The deceased has been identified as David John Cockwell (83), a British citizen residing in Candolim.
