Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Minister Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday released the State’s Draft Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy for public consultation, within 50 days of announcing the initiative.
The draft policy, which the government said fulfils its 100-day commitment in half the stipulated time, was unveiled at Paryatan Bhavan following consultations with industry leaders, academia and other stakeholders.
It will be available for public review on the State Portal, Goa Online Portal and the IT website from May 4 for 15 days.
Addressing a press conference, Khaunte said the policy framework was aimed at driving AI adoption across sectors such as governance, tourism, finance and public services.
He said the draft policy focuses on AI skilling, development of AI startups, creation of innovation ecosystems, strengthening of government and public services, and development of infrastructure for AI and research.
Under the proposed Goa AI Mission 2027, the policy aims to leverage local talent, develop Large Language Model (LLM) systems and ensure safety and accountability in the use of AI.
Khaunte said the primary objective of the policy was to ensure that technological advancements benefit the common man while keeping Goa’s youth skilled and competitive.
The minister said the draft policy has been placed in the public domain to invite suggestions and feedback before it is finalised.
During the interaction, Khaunte also said the State government is deliberating on restricting social media access for children below the age of 16 and is awaiting further stakeholder inputs on promoting AI-driven educational tools as a productive alternative.
“We will be sharing this document with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to put forth to the Central government,” he said.
