A 17-year-old girl who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her room at Nachinola is suspected to have died of natural causes, according to the police, even as the final postmortem opinion remains pending chemical analysis of the viscera.

Doctors who conducted the autopsy stated that no external injuries were found on the body. The viscera samples have been preserved and sent for chemical analysis to determine whether poisoning could have caused the girl’s death.

“We have sent the viscera for further analysis to find out whether there was any poisoning that led to the death of the girl,” a doctor privy to the postmortem said.

Following the postmortem examination, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites. The police had initially registered the case as an unnatural death.

However, after the preliminary findings of the postmortem and further inquiry, police said there was no indication of foul play.

“We have interrogated the parents and people close to the girl and even checked the CCTV footage available from the house. There is no foul play suspected. We have registered the case as natural death,” Mapusa PI Navin Desai said.
