MARGAO
Fatorda MLA and Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai has formally submitted The Goa Protection of Agricultural Lands Bill, 2026 (Bill No. 22 of 2026) for introduction in the upcoming session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
The Bill has been forwarded to the Law Secretariat for vetting, with instructions to ensure it meets the requirements for introduction in the House. The Secretariat has been directed to complete the process by March 4, 2026, to enable the Speaker's consideration.
The proposed legislation seeks to address growing concerns over the rapid conversion of agricultural land and the erosion of Goa's green cover. Sardesai said he had consistently raised the alarm over amendments to land laws that have left fertile soil vulnerable to real estate exploitation.
He emphasised that the Bill represents the voice of thousands of Goans watching their agricultural heritage being sold off. He reiterated that Goan soil is not a commodity and farmers are not speculators. While the government may turn a blind eye, the opposition remains committed to protecting Goa's identity and environment.
The Bill is expected to be listed for introduction on March 13, 2026, marking a crucial moment in the ongoing battle to safeguard Goa's land and resources.
