Two undertrials returning to Colvale jail after undergoing a medical examination at the Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim were found in possession of 344 grams of marijuana hidden in their slippers.

Colvale police have registered a case against Dilip Saha and Mohammad Salman after 143 grams of ganja worth Rs 15,000 were found in the slippers of Saha, while 201 grams of ganja worth Rs 20,000 were found in the slippers of Salman.

The incident came to light on Wednesday at around 1 pm when Saha and Salman were returning from the GMC hospital under police escort after a routine medical check-up.

They were checked at the main gate of the jail when the IRB police team became suspicious about the slippers they were wearing and found them sewn. When the IRB police removed the stitches, they found ganja concealed inside. These inmates are believed to have changed their slippers while at the GMC hospital.

The prison administration was notified, and officials seized the ganja. Late in the evening, the jail administration handed over the ganja to the Colvale police along with a formal complaint. Police registered a case against the two inmates, and the investigation is in progress under the guidance of Police Inspector Sanjit Kandolkar.
