As Goa breathed a sigh of relief with widespread rains since Sunday, the State recorded its second-highest rainfall of the ongoing monsoon season on Monday, receiving 21.6 mm of rain. However, the State's cumulative rainfall deficit remained above 70 per cent.
According to data by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa, the highest single-day rainfall so far this season was recorded on June 10, when the State received 24.7 mm of rainfall.
While rainfall activity over the last 24 hours was classified as “normal” by the IMD, it only marginally reduced the overall seasonal deficit. Goa has received 189.1 mm of rainfall since the onset of the southwest monsoon against the normal cumulative rainfall of 641.4 mm, leaving the State with a deficit of 70.5 per cent.
“Light to moderate rainfall occurred at most places over the State of Goa,” the IMD stated in its daily bulletin.
The department has issued a yellow alert for Goa till June 26, forecasting moderate rainfall across the State and warning of heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Weather officials are expecting rainfall activity to increase gradually over the coming days under favourable monsoon conditions.
