Retired Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Ferdino Rebello on Sunday gave a clarion call to the people of Goa to attend the rally at the Azad Maidan, Panjim on Goa Statehood Day to save Goa from destruction.

Winding up his series of meetings organised by Enough is Enough movement across the state with an impressive meeting at Chinchinim  on Sunday evening, Rebello said  the time has come for every Goan to come out and save the state for posterity.

He pointed out that zones and conversions are being approved by the Town and Country Planning department through the controversial Amendments, including section 39-A of the TCP Act.

“We have had several meetings across the state to educate the people and spread awareness on the implications of the amended section on the state’s land resources, demography and its very identity”, he said, while making a fervent plea to the people to join the meeting on Goa Statehood Day.

Senior High Court lawyer, Adv Cleofato Couitnho reiterated that democracy is best protected and defended on the streets.

Salcete Coordinator of Enough is Enough movement Serafino Cota said that the second home concept poses a direct threat to the infrastructure of the state.

He said when these second  homes are given on rent, there is a strain on infrastructure such as water and power, adversely affecting the local population.
