Bardez witnessed several incidents of tree falls, power disruptions and waterlogging after sudden pre-monsoon showers accompanied by strong winds hit parts of the taluka early on Sunday morning.

According to fire and emergency officials, around a dozen tree fall incidents were reported from different parts of Bardez, including Tivim, Mapusa, Aldona and Calangute constituencies. Fire personnel from the Mapusa and Pilerne stations rushed to various locations to clear uprooted trees and restore normalcy. Although no casualties or serious incidents were reported, several houses suffered minor damage due to falling trees and strong winds, causing inconvenience to residents and motorists.

In Anjuna, one electric pole collapsed while another remained dangerously tilted, disrupting power supply and posing a risk to commuters and residents. Electricity department officials were deployed at the site and were working to restore supply. The heavy showers also led to waterlogging in several areas, once again raising concerns over pre-monsoon preparedness and drainage maintenance.

With the monsoon expected to arrive within the next one or two weeks, questions are being raised over whether the authorities will take timely preventive steps to avoid similar incidents in the coming days. The sudden change in weather early on Sunday caused widespread inconvenience across parts of Bardez and highlighted the need for better preparedness ahead of the monsoon.
