Margao police personnel on the Station road to crack a whip against illegal road side vendors.
MARGAO The Margao Police has launched a drive against illegal roadside vendors operating along the busy Margao Station Road in an effort to ease traffic congestion in the area.
Police personnel carried out an operation, clearing sections of the road of vendors selling vegetables and fruits without authorisation. During the drive, five vegetable vendors were rounded up and detained.
The operation was conducted under the direction of newly appointed Police Inspector Arun Desai. Speaking to the media, PI Desai said the drive would continue in the coming days to ensure that the congested station road is freed from illegal vendors.
For years, unauthorised vendors have crowded Margao Station Road, stretching from Pimpalkatta up to the station road footbridge, significantly contributing to traffic bottlenecks and inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists alike.
Police officials indicated that sustained enforcement action would be taken to prevent the reappearance of illegal vendors and to restore smooth movement along the key roadway.
