BICHOLIM

Vedanta Sesa Goa participated in a meeting convened at the District Collector’s office in Bicholim to address concerns raised by the Mulgao community regarding mining activities in the area. The meeting was attended by representatives of the community, Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye and officials of the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG).

Discussions focused on the demarcation of the buffer zone and night shift operations at the Bicholim mines. During the meeting, the District Collector and DMG officials informed community members that, as per applicable regulations and laws, the buffer zone must be demarcated at a distance of 50 metres from existing houses.

On the issue of night shift operations, the company clarified that noise monitoring is being conducted in accordance with regulations and that sound levels remain within the limits prescribed by the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB).

Vedanta Sesa Goa stated that its mining activities are being carried out legally and in compliance with all regulatory requirements. The company said it has maintained dialogue with the Mulgao community and that several concerns raised earlier have been addressed through engagement.

The company also expressed concern over disruptions to mining operations, stating that continued operations would contribute to the State’s development following the resumption of mining in Goa.

“Vedanta Sesa Goa has always operated within the framework of law and is fully compliant with all regulatory aspects. We remain committed to the holistic progress of the communities and urge all stakeholders to engage constructively for the overall progress of the State of Goa,” said Dhirajkumar Jagdish, Deputy CEO, Vedanta IOG.
