MARGAO
Tension and high drama were seen in Margao on Friday after Mirabag protesters gathered at the historic Lohia Maidan as part of their ongoing agitation against the controversial bandhara project. The protestors were later evicted by the Goa police around noon.
Despite the police action, the protestors, along with South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes, launched a jail bharo agitation. They were placed in waiting vehicles at Lohia Maidan and taken to the Margao district police headquarters.
However, the protestors refused to enter the police headquarters and instead sat in protest at the entrance of the building.
An exchange of words was seen between Margao police station in-charge PI Arun Desai and the South Goa MP after the police objected to the shouting of slogans. When the MP asked whether the police considered the slogans anti-national, PI Desai told the protestors not to raise derogatory slogans. The protestors continued their demonstration till late in the night.
