Min urges women to gain digital skills Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte attended a programme to mark International Women’s Day.

Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said that women are the backbone of families and play a key role in the socio-economic development of society. He was speaking at a programme held at Salai to mark International Women’s Day.   

Khaunte said that in the modern digital era, it is important for women to acquire digital knowledge to become financially independent and ensure their safety. He said the Mahila Digital Shashiktikaran Yojana, introduced by the Department of Information and Technology, has been designed especially for rural women. He urged women to enrol in short-term courses under the scheme and improve their digital skills.   

He also highlighted the importance of drone training for women through initiatives such as the Namo Drone Didi scheme. According to him, such programmes help women enter technical fields like agriculture and surveillance and promote economic independence. He encouraged women from the Porvorim constituency to learn drone operations and become the first drone pilots from the area.   

On the occasion, five women ” Sandhya Mhambre, Smita Azgaonkar, Radhika Sawant, Marina Moraes and Subhi Satardekar ” were felicitated for their contribution to society.   

ZP members Amit Nasnodkar and Sandeep Salgaonkar, sarpanches Swapnil Chodankar and Soniya Pednekar, along with panch members from Penha de Franca, Succor and Salvador do Mundo, attended the programme.
