In a tragic incident, Guirim panch Shrimati Nanodkar, her husband and her sister were killed while her son, Guirim panch Sunny Nanodkar, and another relative were seriously injured in a road mishap on the Mumbai-Goa highway at Sawantwadi on Monday afternoon.
According to reports, the mishap took place when Sunny Nanodkar (36) was driving a Thar jeep, with his mother, Shrimati (58), his father, Pandurang (65), all from Guirim, Shrimati’s sister Vilasini Satardekar (54) of Bhirwande-Kankavali and another relative, Ujjwala Kambli (48), as passengers.
The vehicle was on its way to drop off Vilasini at Bhirwande in Kankavali in Sindhudurg district, when Sunny allegedly lost control of the vehicle at Nemale area and the jeep fell into a ravine by the road at about 2.15 pm.
Shrimati, Vilasini, Pandurang, Sunny and Ujjwala were seriously injured and were first rushed to a hospital in Sawantwadi, where Shrimati and Vilasini were declared dead. Pandurang, Sunny and Ujjwala were later moved to the GMC hospital at Bambolim, where Pandurang died in the evening while undergoing treatment.
Further investigation is being conducted by Sawantwadi Police under the guidance of Police Inspector Amol Chavan.
While Shrimati was the sitting member of Ward 1 of Guirim, her son, Sunny, is panch member of Ward 5. Sunny Nanodkar is the former sarpanch of Guirim. Since Ward 1 was reserved for women, Sunny had fielded his mother Shrimati in the ward and he had contested from Ward 5. Both Sunny and his mother Shrimati won elections from their respective wards.
Pandurang Nanodkar was in the business of selling mangoes in front of Kavlekar's shop in Mapusa market for many years. Currently, Sunny, is managing the business.
