Goa’s first-ever Sensory Integrated Garden, a unique project of Caritas Goa, was inaugurated at the Centre for DeafBlind in Saligao on Wednesday to foster an enriching experience and an inclusive environment that nurtures the physical, emotional, and sensory well-being of children with diverse needs.

Archbishop of Goa Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão inaugurated the Sensory Integrated Garden in the presence of Joshua Silveira (Director of India Operations, Frontline), Manjari Rajankar (Senior Manager “ People and Culture, Frontline), Rochelle Pinto (Assistant Office Manager, Frontline), Fr Denis Fernandes (Parish Priest of Saligao Church), and Guruprasad R. Fr Savio Fernandes, Assistant Director of Caritas Goa, welcomed the gathering, while Cardinal Ferrão later blessed the garden, invoking divine grace upon the initiative.

A guided walkthrough of the garden was then conducted, during which guests were introduced to the unique features and components designed to stimulate sensory engagement and support therapeutic development.

Joshua Silveira shared his insights and experiences, highlighting his professional journey and contributions. This was followed by a speech by Tyron Monteiro, a student with vision loss and an active member of the Udaan group, who spoke about his involvement in supporting individuals with disabilities and encouraging participation in community initiatives.

Jincy Subash, a dedicated parent of a child with cerebral palsy, then shared her journey, emphasising the importance of parental support, community involvement, and guidance for families of children with disabilities.

Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, appreciated the initiative taken by Caritas Goa in creating an inclusive and supportive environment through the Sensory Integrated Garden.

Cardinal Ferrão later addressed the gathering, appreciated the initiative, and emphasised the importance of inclusion and compassion in society.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Caritas Goa Director Fr Maverick Fernandes, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and contributors who made the event a success.

“The event celebrated inclusion, accessibility, and Caritas Goa’s commitment to providing enriching experiences for children with diverse needs,” said Fr Maverick Fernandes.
