Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has welcomed the Centre’s decision to cut excise duty on petrol and diesel, calling it a significant step to shield the common man from rising global crude oil prices.

In a statement posted today on the social media platform 'X', the Chief Minister praised the Union Government’s move. “I wholeheartedly welcome the decision of the Union Government, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, to slash excise duty on petrol from ₹13 to ₹3 per litre and reduce diesel duty from ₹10 to nil,” he said.

Sawant further emphasised that the decision reflects the government’s commitment to protecting citizens from inflationary pressures. “This is a clear reflection of the government’s resolve to safeguard citizens and shield the common man from the impact of rising global crude oil prices due to the conflict in West Asia,” he added.

He also noted that the move is expected to ensure fuel price stability, support oil marketing companies, and provide relief to citizens.
