Goa Budget 2026: ‘New Mopa City’ to boost wellness, trade and sport

Rs 573 crore allocated for urban development

CM Pramod Sawant announced the development of the ‘New Mopa City’ with support from the central government. The project will focus on infrastructure promoting wellness, trade, and sports. Work on the beautification of Ponda city will also begin this year. A total of Rs 573 crore has been allocated for the Department of Urban Development, with Rs 220 crore for revenue and Rs 353 crore for capital expenditure. Under the IDMT scheme, three projects worth Rs 25 crore will be undertaken in Sanquelim and Valpoi this year.

Key projects

Mormugao Municipal Council: Commercial Complex at Old Power House, Baina (Rs 18 crore), completion expected in December.

Curchorem-Cacora 

Municipal Council: Development and beautification of Ward IV (Rs 3.23 crore), completion by March 2027.

Margao (Ward 9, Borda): Synthetic football turf and Futsal ground lighting (Rs 0.58 crore), completion by June.

Mapusa: Reconstruction of retaining wall at Ganeshpuri football ground (Rs 0.56 crore), completion by March 2027.

Bicholim Municipal Council: Development of open space at Housing Board colony with a multi-sports hard court (Rs 3.55 crore) by April 2026; other open space beautification (Rs 1.42 crore) by March 2027.

City of Corporation of Panaji: Refurbishment and integrated landscape development to improve public spaces, mobility, and access to services (Rs 7.80 crore), completion by October.

Valpoi: Development of Mashiche Mal ground with full sports facilities (Rs 31.09 crore) by June; beautification of the constituency with poles and masts (Rs 2.97 crore) by May; repairs to Municipal/Administrative building (Rs 1.48 crore) by April 2026.

Ponda: Construction of Golden Jubilee building at Sadar-Ponda (Rs 3.31 crore), completion by April.
